Mihos is in for 2010 as a Republican

by: FrankSkeffington

Sat Apr 25, 2009 at 17:13:01 PM EDT

(Christy Mihos appears to have announced for Governor as a Republican ... sort of.  Excellent digging! - promoted by David)

...but does he want to run as a I or an R?

UPDATE (by David): In reply to the query by "Festus," Christy Mihos confirms that he will run in 2010 as a Republican.  I've edited the title of this post accordingly.

Also, credit where credit is due: Christy Mihos' post on some of the issues he wants to run on, and his subsequent comment announcing his intention to run as a Republican, are all at RMG.  But you have to burrow into the comments to find the actual news!

Scoop? (0.00 / 0)
Is this anywhere else?

Nope (5.50 / 4)
RMG has the scoop.

If no one sees the scoop, is it a scoop? (0.00 / 0)
EaBo, for a while, I was the only one commenting on Christy's posting...and David at BMG was the first person to reconize the news value of his comment.  (I did to, but was puzzled no one made a big deal about it. I was away for several days this month...so I thought maybe Christy had already announced his intentions and I was not aware of it.)

I guess you guys didn't get your talking points from Howie before you knew whether you should mention it or not.

Friendly advice, EaBo -- (0.00 / 0)
yes, you guys have the "scoop," in that the news appeared first on your site.  But it's buried in the comments -- there's nothing in any headline that would lead anyone to realize that there's actual news buried in there.  If something like that happens on your site, you should make a bigger deal out of it.

Heh - jinx, Frank! :-D (0.00 / 0)

Better luck next time (6.00 / 1)
But good on having the forum that broke the news.

Is it telling that the best Mihos could manage was to declare his candidacy in a sub-comment on an RMG post.

BMG: Reality-based commentary.

[ Parent ]
He actually declared his candidacy in the Op-Ed (6.00 / 1)
"Christy Mihos is a businessman, entrepreneur, and a candidate for governor."

He confirmed he is running as a Republican in the comment section.

Bad news for Cahill (0.00 / 0)
How does he run right of Deval but left of Mihos?

He'll have to go negative on Deval early and often, if he's serious.

Thats assuming... (6.00 / 4)
...Christy wins the primary...and that is assuming a lot.  There is a lot of anger in the Ma Republican Party over Christy (OK, there is a lot of anger in the MA Republican Party about a lot of things) and I think he'll lose against a Charlie Baker.  I hope like crazy that Scott Brown is somewhere in the mix (maybe as Charlie's LG partner...maybe as a Gov candidate).  I heard the two of them on the radio a few weeks back and it was evident they don't like each other.

Bottom-line: Any race Christy is involved in (Rep Primary or General Election) he'll be throwing round-house punches.  Often times he'll be just hitting himself and looking like a fool, but sometimes he'll connect one on his opponent(s) and he'll make them like like a fool.

Anything is possible in politics and I think it is equally possible that: A) Christy bloody's the Republican primary (and drains fund raising) and creates a weaker Republican candidate.  This could help Cahill if he's an independent.  B) Christy wins the primary, but (like in 2006) he's not even close to looking Gubernatorial (think about his commercial about politicians with their head up their ass) and people have to choose between Christy the Clown; Cadillac Deval or Cahill the Caped Crusader.  (I'm not a fan of Cahill...I just let alliteration get the better of me.)

Hadn't thought about that (0.00 / 0)
The GOP thinks Mihos hurt Healey?

DUH! Gee whiz, JC! (0.00 / 0)

Yr. Obedient Servant, Peter Porcupine, Republican

[ Parent ]
Yeah... without Mihos (6.00 / 3)
even if every single supporter of Mihos went for Healey, Patrick wins 56-41-2.

Yeah yeah, it's more complicated than that.  Still, it's not exactly Nader in Florida, 2000.

[ Parent ]
I guess I had that coming (0.00 / 0)
Somewhat.

But it's not a terribly rational view of the race. (I'm not saying I would be rational in that situation.)

[ Parent ]
Really?! (6.00 / 2)
More than, say, Romney?

[ Parent ]
Mihos (5.50 / 2)
It actually makes me feel somewhat bad for the Republican party in Massachusetts.  And, if there was an Indpendent Party, I would consider a name change.

How about the Democrat Party? (0.00 / 0)
That would be exciting.

A waste of time (5.25 / 4)
Christy Mihos running for governor again is a waste of time unless he only wants to be the gadfly and get issues out there because when he ran the last time, his public appearances, including debates, were an embarrassment, and painful to watch. He comes across as unprepared, not having thought out all the ramifications of his positions, a poor public communicator, and not up to the competition. He is fun to listen to, off the cuff, in a Boston Metro kind of way, but not someone I want in the mix when serious business is at hand. Before I get reminded of how he built his successful convenience store chain , I concede that, but based on my observations of his performance the last time, thanks, but no thanks.

Of course, then, (0.00 / 0)
double the fun.  lol. Oy. Can someone on register duty help everyone out here?

[ Parent ]
I'll remind you of how he built the convenience store chain... (6.00 / 1)
...he started with a couple fo stores from his dad and then stole the business from his siblings...who don't speak to him.  A real American Dream Story in our modern age.

For the life of me I don't know how anybody (0.00 / 0)
could rate this comment a 0, as in unfit for anyone else to read or the unreconstructable work of a troll.  WTF. There are sentient people who view Mihos in this fashion.  As a result, it is not worthy of a zero.

Uprated on principal alone.

A repeat (0.00 / 0)
Many people zero-rate a repeated comment in order to try to delete it.  That's all.

~~~~
Believe it or not, I have even more to say...
[ Parent ]
Because it's a dupe. (0.00 / 0)
The initial got a 5.  The dupe got a 0.  Because it should be deleted.  Because it's a dupe.
[ Parent ]
Welcome Back to the Tent Christy! (0.00 / 0)
I am thrilled that Christy will toss his hat into the GOP ring this time.  His participation will ensure a spirited, reform and idea-driven primary and a few thoughtful laughs along the way.  I'd likely be with Baker if he (ever) jumps in, but Christy is an "R" to his core and it's good to have him back.
