Much has been discussed about Dan Grabauskas’ July 6th email. How does that reconcile with Grabauskas’ Greater Boston interview on July 21st where he said that even with the sales tax increase, fares will still need to increase (at 5:00 min mark).
Good soldier? Doubt it, in the same interview he called Aloisi a liar.
So which is it Dan, were you lying to us then or lying to us now?
Please share widely!

Plain and simple.
<
p>And he would have continued to play the good soldier if Aloisi hadn’t started saying that the fare raise was all Grabauskas’ idea and may not actually be needed.
johnk says
kind of puts good soldier in question.
frankskeffington says
…big difference calling Aloisi a liar about Aloisi trying to reach Grabauskas and Dan not responding and saying that a major policy plan (fare hikes) is a big lie. It’s one thing to show that there is bad blood between the two…it’s a whole different league to accuse Aloisi (and the Gov) of lieing to the people of Massachusetts. The latter of course did occur this week, after Aloisi tried to fire G and then Aloisi tries to make G the fall guy for the fair increases.
<
p>At best Grabauskas needs to explain why he was being a good soldier instead of telling the people of MA the truth a lot sooner. For many of us, Aloisi does not need to explain a thing…we had his number all along and nothing he does surprises us.
johnk says
Grabauskas is not the hero that he wants to portray himself to be with the leaked emails. That’s why I think we need an explanation. Dan needs to do a lot better than cherry picking emails to send to the Globe.
<
p>You are way off base, why don’t you try to call your boss a liar on television and see where that gets you. He holds no allegiance to Aliosi, if he thought we were going in the wrong direction with the fare increases if would have got out there.
<
p>Dan was fully on board with the fare increases (and probably Aliosi as well for that matter).

What is this Dan Grabauskas obsession? Massachusetts has no bigger problems for you to talk about? Or is it just the summer silly season? When Dan Grabauskas is long forgotten, the MBTA will have all the same problems it had when he arrived. It is really that important to you to ferret out every last living Republican in state government and grind him into the dirt?
david says
Well, gosh, Mark, don’t you think whether the leadership of the state’s transportation bureaucracy is dysfunctional might have something to do with whether the transportation system itself has any hope of ever getting itself on solid footing?
<
p>This isn’t about party. I mean, did you notice that I just called for Aloisi to resign if he can’t explain what’s going on?
<
p>Try to be more constructive in the future.
fdr08 says
Grabauskas was a “R” and a Romney hack so he had to go and now we have “0ur” hack Aloisi (D) so everything will be just fine!
johnk says
it’s simply pointing out that Grabauskas if full of baloney. David wrote a post critical Aloisi.
david says
You don’t, obviously, since your comment has nothing to do with any of the posts on this issue, nor with any of my comments. Thanks for playing, though.
atticus says
Again ! Watch, Dan Grabauskas will be on the Republican ticket for Governor with Charlie Baker or Christy Mihos.
<
p>Shows how STUPID Deval Patrick is to listen to that WP..
Aloisi
nathanielb says
It seems as though he was against a fare increase at the present time because of the additional revenue provided by the sales tax increase. That doesn’t suggest he would have been opposed to some kind of increase next year or the year after based on the fiscal situation.
<
p>I think that Patrick made a dumb move forcing Grabauskas out. He was slated to leave in May – but now taxpayers will have to give him $330k AND pay the salary of whoever replaces him in the meantime. That makes no sense.
<
p>This looks really petty and a little bit sleazy on the part of Deval Patrick.
johnk says
were you for the fare hike or not. You can’t just plant favorable emails to the Globe and be a hero. He needs to explain why he’s out there explaining why a fare hike is needed, while now leaking messages saying we don’t need one. He can’t have it both ways.
<
p>If Grabauskas was an all around pain and he was a roadblock then he needed to go. He would not resign as many others would have done. He instead forced the state to pay him the $330k. People step down all the time Grabauskas chose not to, it is what it is.
lateboomer says
to defend your boss’s position in public (it’s reported that Secretary Aloisi was insistent about a fare increase in front of the MBTA board) and then to try to change your boss’s mind in private (the email wouldn’t have been leaked if Grabauskas wasn’t fired). That’s how we expect senior public officials to behave themselves. I think this makes Dan G look like the real pro.
johnk says
defending your boss’ position is in question since in the same interview you called you boss a liar.
<
p>Is that how you expect senior public officials to behave?
<
p>Please, Grabauskas was fresh off his suspension for one of multiple accidents and safety problems on the T (remember that? We’ll Grabauskas doesn’t want you to). He knew that he was going out the door, yet he still wanted to appear on Greater Boston to discuss the fare hikes and defend them.
<
p>He didn’t have to appear on TV, but he did. Now he picks a few emails that make him look good and now he’s a hero. Save it, at the end of the day Grabauskas thought the fare hikes were a good idea, the same with Aloisi.
<
p>I read comments like Grabauskas did a wonderful job at the DMV, Zzzzzzzz. Well, what kind of a job did he do at the T is the question. Answer: not so good.
