Education Forum on November 9th in Acton

by: jenbenson

Thu Oct 29, 2009 at 21:08:18 PM EDT

( - promoted by Charley on the MTA)

One thing we all value is education and we understand the importance of an excellent education for the future of our Commonwealth.  Last year I ran on a strong education platform and I am now thrilled to serve on the Joint Committee on Education.  I am teaming up with the Acton Democratic Town Committee to hold a forum on education.  We will discuss many of the issues before the legislature such as Readiness Schools, lifting the Charter School Cap, funding, and questions from the audience.

If this sounds interesting to you please come on November 9th, 7:30pm, at the RJ Grey Jr High School in Acton.  Our panelists are Marty Walz, House Chair of the Education Committee; Jeff Wulfson, Deputy Commissioner of Education and Jonathan Chinitz, member of the Acton School Committee.

I'd love to see you all there with your questions, concerns and ideas!

Jen

How about giving the kids in regional school districts (6.00 / 1)
the same respect you give the other students in the Commonwealth?  How is it acceptable to burden one group of the Commonwealth's school children with a crippling expense and leave the majority intact?

Gutting Chapter 71 Regional Transportation is unethical and patently discriminatory.  The uncovered expenses--that the Commonwealth is legally responsibile for, to boot--have to now be paid for with Chapter 70 and other moneys.

In essence, you left Chapter 70 intact for the children who don't attend school in regional school districts, but you effectively gutted it for those who do.

Tell Wulfson it's about time they got their act together and rolled Chapter 71 into Chapter 70 for Regional Districts.  We've been lobbying for this for years to no avail.  Do the right thing.
