Breaking: DeNucci to Retire

( - promoted by David)

Well, Massachusetts' election in 2010 just got even more interesting!

It's time to hang up the gloves. State Auditor A. Joseph DeNucci will not seek re-election next year, ending a five-decade career at the State House in which the former champion boxer rose from legislative page to heading up one of the most powerful state offices.

Yet another change in the power structure of Massachusetts. Any ideas who will run for the seat?

"Any ideas who will run for the seat?" (0.00 / 0)
It appears the article you linked to answers that question:

"Democrats who may run include: former State Senator Guy Glodis, now the sheriff of Worcester County; Boston City Councilor Stephen Murphy; Patrick's labor secretary and former state representative Suzanne Bump; and State Senator Marc R. Pacheco."

Ideas (0.00 / 0)
Yeah, I saw those - but I wondered if BMG'ers had any other names to throw in the mix.

It's funny - I never had a problem with DeNucci - although I think I voted Green last election as a symbolic vote since he had no republican competition - but I am excited to get some fresh blood in Mass. Democratic politics. Or at least a little upheaval.

With the Senate seat along with Governor, Treasurer, Auditor and perhaps AG, it should be a fascinating season.

This makes three constitutional offices up for grabs. (0.00 / 0)
With the smart money still being on Coakley to become Senator and Cahill bolting the party and running for Governor, both AG and TRG nominations are open.  Caucuses for state convention are less than three months away!

Hrm, something interesting on the Democratic ballot (0.00 / 0)
Might draw me back to.  I was thinking about voting in the Baker-Mihos showdown if everyone else was just facing nominal opposition.

Central Mass Rumors (0.00 / 0)
"Our Guy" Sheriff Glodis will run for auditor, Rep. Lew Evangelidis will run for Glodis's seat as Sheriff of Worcester County, leaving Evangelidis's 1st Worcester seat open for grabs.  Of course, the towns in the 1st Worcester are Holden, Hubbardston, Oakham, Princeton, Rutland, precinct 1 of the town of Sterling and the town of Westminster and aren't exactly what you'd call a political fulcrum.  Look for the Evangelidis seat heir to come out of Holden if all that falls into.  Just sayin'.

I'd add one more name to list (6.00 / 1)
Sen Mark Montigny. He's got the cash and credentials.

Senator Marc Pacheco (0.00 / 0)
Seems a logical candidate for Auditor in what could be a crowded field.

Joe DeNucci will be missed. A champion for human services when he chaired that Committee in the House and a fighter for taxpayers as Auditor.
