Caroline Kennedy: "It would be amazing if this guy won." (She means Khazei.)

by: David

Fri Dec 04, 2009 at 21:59:31 PM EST

Politico:

Caroline Kennedy was a guest at New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's fundraiser last month for Khazei, where she lavished praise on the candidate. "It would be amazing if this guy won," the daughter of President John F. Kennedy said at the event, according to a source at the event, where the photographs above and below were taken.

Caroline Kennedy's daughter, Rose, has volunteered for the Khazei campaign, a Khazei supporter said.

Here's a pic from the Bloomberg event:

I agree, it would be amazing since he's polling at 7% (6.00 / 3)
A month ago?  Come on David.  How about a few days ago from Ted's own son Patrick:

But what we can say as his colleagues is that we know Michael as a real fighter for working people and we know him to be an effective consumer advocate.

This at an appearance the week before the primary on consumer protection.

Is this thread "Photos with any Kennedy"??? (0.00 / 0)
Okay...here's another one...RFK, Jr...one of my favorites...except I do not know how to drop in a jpeg here at BMG...if someone will advise, i will show you a great photo of 2 great Democrats...

Follow the instructions in the left sidebar... (0.00 / 0)
The link for images is here. From that link, here's how to embed a photo:
Pictures are the easiest to embed.  First, upload your picture to photobucket, flickr, or some other free file sharing service.  Then, using BMG's WYSIWYG editor, just click the "Insert/edit image" icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the text box (it's the one with the picture of a tree on it, but it also works for images of things other than trees).  Then fill in as much of the information requested as you like -- the image's URL is required, of course, but other options allow you to locate the image at specific places in your post using the "alignment" dropdown, and you can resize the image using the "dimensions" boxes.  The click "insert," and you're all set.

If, like me, you are an Auto-Format rather than WYSIWIG enthusiast, you can use the IMG html tag to insert an image in your post.  It works like this -- remove the spaces before and after the < and > brackets:

< img src="http://YOUR-IMAGE-URL" border="0" / >

You can add optional parameters to left- or right-align or resize your image as follows:

< img src="http://YOUR IMAGE URL" border="0" align="left" [or "right"] height="HEIGHT IN PIXELS" width="WIDTH IN PIXELS" / >

Note: if you resize your image, be sure to keep the ratio of height to width the same as it is in the original image, or it will look very silly.

A thousand words... (0.00 / 0)
Hopelessly unable to embed one picture so will have to stick with the thousand words method of communicating an image.

[ Parent ]
You left out the <> brackets (0.00 / 0)
Also, when embedding an image, be careful to use the "image location," not the URL of the webpage.  They are different.  But this is what you were going for, right?

[ Parent ]
Thank you, David for helping a Luddite... (6.00 / 1)
Nice picture...Robert Kennedy Jr. looks very enthralled with our Attorney general!  Now the "Pictures with Kennedy's who are not endorsing" thread is almost complete...someone needs to post a Pagliucca with one of the kennedy 3rd cousins and we will have a full house.

This all reminds me of when Howard Dean took a detour off the campaign trail to have his picture taken with Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter in Georgia...he knew there would be no endorsement but hoped the picture would send a thousand words toward creating that impression.

This enitre post is to place a picture with a Kennedy ... (0.00 / 0)
Not sure about your Kennedy popularity contest, but I am pointing to the person who closely worked with Ted in Washington, his own son.  That person went out of his way to appear with Capuano a week before the primary.  Caroline, Jr. something or other Kennedy, that's nice, there are not Ted's kids.

Actually it was Cap who went out of the way... (6.00 / 1)
patrick was doing his own thing in RI...it was Mike who went out of his way to travel to RI to get in a photo with patrick who was promoting his own piece of legislation to his own constituents. No endorsement, but the appearance of something that is or is not there.  it did not work for howard Dean, but, who knows...every little bit of blue smoke and mirrors helps.

[ Parent ]
You are obviously joking... (0.00 / 0)
Ted Kennedy's son who was probably his closest confidant in Washington, knowing his wishes and background to any legislation, deals with Obama, etc., etc. went in public praising Capuano a week before the primary for his father's Senate seat and it was because someone drove to Providence?

Listening to Charlie Baker talk about fiscal responsibility is like getting lectured on abstinence from Paris Hilton - Tim Murray

[ Parent ]
AH, I see the disconnect... (0.00 / 0)
Another example of the things that rightly drive non-programmer's crazy.

The problem in your attempt is that you used the url of the flickr page that wraps the picture, rather than the picture itself. What you need is the url of the image itself. I got it by opening your flickr page, then (in Firefox) positioning the cursor over the image using the right-button menu to invoke the "Copy Image Location" command. In this case, it is "http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4160538194_1db1d358db.jpg".

Use the shift-comma before and shift-period after to enclose the html, use the above image url, and it works. I copied the text of your 11:33:56 comment and did just that. The hieroglyphics are unfortunate and tedious -- I guess that's the price we must pay for all this way-cool magic.

Here is the corrected content of the image tag:

Crissakes, couldn't this bozo do it anonymously.  This looks desperate.  Who's the crack staff member who thought this was a good idea.  Did the old proof reader get promoted?

A Khazei spokesman, circulating the below photo today, said that Caroline Kennedy hasn't donated to his campaign nor offered an endorsement

Some cheese with that whine? (0.00 / 0)
Clearly Caroline Kennedy chose to attend a Khazei for US Senate campaign event --not a Capuano, Coakley or Pagliuca event-- and was pleased to be photographed there with the candidate.

As a Capuano advocate you don't have to like it, but there's no point whining about it.

So let me get this straight. This is a Politico story about an event that occured a month ago with Carolyn Kennedy in attendence but NOT endorsing Kay-Z and that is front page stuff while my diary on Capauano's meeting with Patrick Kennedy doesn't even make it to 'recommended diary' status? ;-P

I just got a call from Mike Capuano.  He wants he shout-out back!

The truth is that Bloomberg probably asked her to go and she did.  No endorsement and no money  means she might also think it would be amazing for the first woman candidate or the first Italain/Irish candidate etc.

NO ENDORSEMENT- just big time pumped up and hyped PR.

No need for Khazei to take PAC money when he has all of the big time City Year donors and that vast national network.  If he didn't have that he'd have been just like every other non-billionaire candidate.

Just a politician at this point.

Didn't mean to sound so snarky about Khazei (0.00 / 0)
He's known to be a good guy but it's hard to take the holier than thou attitude when he's doing everything he can to make it look like he's ahead.  The press loves him -they've known him as a good deed doer for years.  What's not to like but ready for the Senate?  Not my choice.

Way to hijack a thread, Neil (0.00 / 0)
I realize Capuano suffers from a lack of exposure on BMG, but really. Whether you like it or not, there's a lot more interest in what Caroline does than what Patrick does, especially since he's a fellow member of the New England delegation. He waas appearing with Capuano at a press event regarding legislation they're both supporting, and said a couple of nice things about Cap. Caroline appeared at a fundraiser specifically put on to support Khazei. No, she didn't endorse him, but it certainly can be taken as a hint, as Ruppert suggested. And the story may be a month old, but I hadn't heard it.

I'm not even a Khazei supporter, although I like the guy. But the Capuano supporters on this site I find increasingly annoying. Now circulating a photo of your candidate with Caroline Kennedy makes you a desperate bozo? Jeez. Even the Capuano photo has to be twice the size of the original Caroline photo.

[ Parent ]
Don't you want to be complaining to johnk ? (0.00 / 0)
My remark about Ruperts assertion is truthful and you acknowledge that.

My earlier comment is poking fun at Kay-Z celebrity friends and David's choice of front page material.

I had nothing to do with posting the photo of Capuano with Patrick Kennedy who also did not endorse a candidate.

Commenting on what David chooses as front page material is entirely in bounds. I'm not buying what you're selling and in the interst of getting this front page article back on track, I will refrain from any further meta discussion if you will do too.

Ruppert said "I'll take Caroline's endorsement/suggestion/reccomendation/hint.." which you shortend to "I'll take Caroline's endorsement..."

I also used a separate graf to talk about the Capuano supporters on this site and in this thread. Like others, I feel that the increasingly presence of Capuano graphics in every sig line is over the top and annoying. (Some) Capuano supporters can't seem to resist a weird sort of one-upsmanship whenever anything positive is said about another candidate.

OK, we can stop now.

Sometimes I wonder... (0.00 / 0)
what primary these people think they're running in?

Pags donates to Bush....twice and expects to get elected in a Democratic primary?? Does this guy really think I'm that stupid?? Well, of course he does.

Capuano gets in Roll Call and announces that hey, that letter I signed about the public option...ehhh....had my fingers crossed. Didn't mean that.

I get what he's saying but please....keep that to yourself. Not the way to negotiate. Or perhaps, don't sign the letter in the first place?!?!

Coakley responds to the stimulus/jobs question with a "Let's wait and see and study the first stimulus."

Now, Paul Krugman wrote a blog post yesterday ripping Bernanke for saying the same thing. I mean, this is the exact kind of thing I'd expect to hear from someone who had no idea what they were talking about in relation to economics. No way I can vote for her now if she's that clueless with regard to how fiscal policy works.

And my first reaction was: My God, there are no jobs. She let Ed Harding?!? bully her into the response with the $95,000 study of pollen in Iceland BS.

I mean, Sarah Palin pulled the same BS with the "Why are we studying fruit flies?" crap last year. Studies of fruit flies have been a major contribution to the study of genetics. And in case nobody noticed, we're having a major problem with bees dying and issues with crops that need pollination. What is it going to take for people to wise up, empty store shelves??

And Khazei, "Mr. I'm taking no special interest money" has Michael Bloomberg holding a fundraiser for him. Mike "I got my own term limit repealed so I could spend $176 per vote and barely win" Bloomberg. That's outstanding. I'm so inspired.

Capuano thanks Barbara Anderson for Endorsement... (0.00 / 0)
Yesterday's Gloucester Times reported on Capuano visit this week and quoted him expressing gratitude for his North Shore supporters including Barbara Anderson of CLT infamey. Barbara Anderson had endorsed Mike last week in her Lawrence Eagle Tribune column with the caveat that she would vote for him in the primary but would vote for the GOP candidate in January...Special elections make very strange bedfellows indeed.

Comparing individuals to Special Interests is truly lame (0.00 / 0)
Why bother pretending that PACs and corporate lobbyists are the same as individuals?

There is a reason lobbyists are required to register as such: they represent corporations or special interests, not individuals. They commonly represent PACs that can disburse massive sums of money to individuals, parties, campaign committees, and ballot initiatives.

A single PAC can contribute double the max amount allowed for individuals, and a given industry --like Big Oil-- can essentially buy votes through scores of industry-specific PACs. Their army of industry lawyers can prepare favorable draft legislation on an issue to make it easier for Sen's and Rep's to rig the game to their advantage.

As individuals, Mike Bloomberg and Warren Buffett are limited to the same contribution amount as you and I.

Really?? (0.00 / 0)
Last I checked, I didn't have $2,000 to donate to any candidate. Right now, that's not possible for a large percentage of the population. So, let's not pretend there's class equity in campaign donations.

Also, there are plenty of creative ways to get around that. Husband and wife each donate the max, then perhaps a kid or two. It may be mentioned at work that it's a good thing to do and suddenly, more donations hit. And of course, nobody would expect a thing in return for the cash.

Look, I get what you're trying to say. Taking PAC donations just makes it easier for bulk donations. Doesn't mean the money doesn't flow regardless, just makes it a little more work.  I'd prefer public financing but then again, I'd do a lot of things differently. As it's been said, show me your budget and I'll show you your priorities. My budget would reflect drastically different priorities.

Saying that you're not taking PAC money doesn't mean much to me for systemic reasons.

Caroline Kennedy and Alan Khazei (5.67 / 6)
Two folks who wake up one morning thinking the US Senate is an entry-level job.

Add Bloomberg (R-Yankee fan from Medford) into the equation, and I wonder why he didn't just buy the Republican nomination for Khazei?

I love that shot of Khazei with Caroline and Bloomberg. He is literally on his toes with excitement, she looks relaxed and radiant, fully recovered from her awkward Senate episode, and Bloomberg looks like he's thinking "I'm a billionaire, I am the three-term mayor of America's largest city, and I am the host of this damn event, but I am still a bit of an awkward nerd." I like that about him.

Heres a new thought (6.00 / 1)
I don't give a s--t who the Kennedy's endorse. It's not their seat it belongs to the people of MA who have the sole authority to fill it with the person of their choice. After careful deliberation I decided to endorse Capuano, and I am endorsing him not just with words and deeds but with my vote-the most important endorsement of all. Others may choose to vote for other candidates. But to me my endorsement is the only one that ultimately matters and I will not be swayed by anyone else's opinion no matter how much I may respect it-I do not like being told how to think or who to vote for.
