Vicki Kennedy will Endorse Martha Coakley Tomorrow

by: johnk

Wed Jan 06, 2010 at 16:40:15 PM EST

( - promoted by David)

Via the Globe.  Vicki Kennedy will declare her backing for Coakley on Thursday at a senior citizens center in Medford.  The Globe is also reporting that Joe Kennedy and Paul Kirk will also be at there at the endorsement.

Vicki wrote an OpEd last month in the Washington Post saying that health reform will finish the work of Ted's life.

My late husband, Ted Kennedy, was passionate about health-care reform. It was the cause of his life. He believed that health care for all our citizens was a fundamental right, not a privilege, and that this year the stars -- and competing interests -- were finally aligned to allow our nation to move forward with fundamental reform.

Those who are against reforming health care and reducing costs, well you know, he's got a guy who can throw a baseball wicked fast for an endorsement.  Wow.

Also promoting his legacy (6.00 / 1)
I got an email from her tonight plugging the EMK Institute for the US Senate.  Looks like an interesting endeavour.

OK, but is this exactly breaking news? (4.00 / 2)
If she was going to endorse Brown or the "non" Kennedy, that would be news.

In fact...what took her so long, exactly? Where was she when the primary ended? (3.00 / 1)

All smiles (3.00 / 1)
even giggles from the folks at the primary.  How did you vote today?
Republican.

[ Parent ]
How about.... (6.00 / 1)
she decided to wait until someone was paying attention?

Sounds like good strategy to me.

[ Parent ]
Very similar to the Bill Clinton endorsement... (0.00 / 0)
that worked out pretty well, seems that they are following the same playbook.

Joe Kennedy and Paul Kirk will also be endorsing Coakley tomorrow.

Listening to Charlie Baker talk about fiscal responsibility is like getting lectured on abstinence from Paris Hilton - Tim Murray

It's also a good strategy (0.00 / 0)
in that it's fairly close to the election when people are paying somewhat more attention, but far enough away that Coakley can now develop and run ads referencing the Kennedy endorsements.

[ Parent ]
Ah. Thank you all for the strategy lesson. I had thought there might be an endorsement out of enthusiasm. (0.00 / 0)

Will the new ads be in front of a bay window with green leaves?

Happy to help! (6.00 / 2)
If the Mass. GOP ever wants advice on how to win elections, send 'em on over to BMG!  ;-)

Rule 1. (6.00 / 1)
Avoid the BMG endorsement curse!

"It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that things are difficult." - Seneca (5 BC - 65 AD)

[ Parent ]
Yes, but... (0.00 / 0)
...it's earned media.  Coakley will get at least one news cycle worth of her candidacy being mentioned in the same sentence as the name Kennedy.
