Michael Albano also in for Senate race

by: Charley on the MTA

Tue Jan 26, 2010 at 20:28:04 PM EST

So sez Cambridge News Weekly. Michael is the son of Sal Albano, who once held an adjacent seat (now Pat Jehlen's).

Albano has never been a candidate for public office, but he is no stranger to electoral politics. His father Sal was a Somerville State Senator from 1984 to 1990 and was a maverick voice for political reform and progressive public policy. "I learned from my father," Albano said, "that when you stand up for what you believe in and bring honesty and accountability to public service you can bring people together, restore their confidence and really move things in the right direction. We need that now more than ever, and I'm looking forward to this campaign. People need something to believe in to get involved."

OK, presumably we'll see what that something is soon.

So, a couple of legacies -- Albano and Tim Flaherty, son of former speaker Charlie Flaherty -- face off amid a now-crowded field.

BTW, if you really really want to know which State Senator served when, and was succeeded by whom, etc., this chart is super-cool.

Mike is a great guy and a great progressive (0.00 / 0)
I first met Mike while I was organizing BU College Democrats for Deval back in '06. Mike opened up his giant real estate office on Newbury street to us for use as a call center on election day and the days leading up to it. In fact, Mike gave us the keys to the office and took the entire week off from work before the election to go up to New Hampshire and try to elect Paul Hodes so we could have a Democratic congress.

Mike Albano: Team player, generous guy, great politics. Hey, he's got this Allstonian's vote.

PS, his dad is awesome, too. I know Sal through a campaign I ran in Medford, and he couldn't have been more generous with his time and excellent advice.

Albano for Senate!
