p>Anyone that wants to blindside the government need only make their enterprise so complicated that it would take years to unravel. Government agencies have to show results for their effort to get congress to improve their budget situation. If they take on a large, complicated case they run into staffing problems, political problems (“We’ll see our congressmen on this – when they get through with you…!”) and time considerations.

p>So when the SEC surfs their porno as the market crashes, the oil wells blow out, coal mines collapse, the IRS chases the little fish; there is a reason. They are following the paths of least resistance.

p>Then there is the problem of regulatory agencies staffed by the industry people they are supposed to regulate…

who needs an economy. I can see it now. America, except for Wall Street, drops off the face of the earth and the stock market continues to thrive. There might me a 30 minute 900 pt drop, but the recovery would continue and would be sustainable. Life would be good. They wouldn’t even know we were gone. LOL

It seems like an arcane way to pass time, getting involved in complex systems that don’t make much sense to outsiders. Similar to cricket.
