Welcome to the NEW Blue Mass. Group!

by: David

Sat Dec 03, 2005 at 14:41:15 PM EST

That's right - we've moved! First things first: our NEW ADDRESS is:

www.BlueMassGroup.com

Please update your bookmarks, blogrolls, etc.!

Now, why did we move?  Basically, because now our site supports diaries, and diaries are what turn an ordinary blog into an online community.  As I've said before, the most exciting thing we've discovered in our year of blogging is the extraordinary community of people who see the internet as an important tool in the never-ending project of changing politics for the better.  This kind of blog, in which everyone, rather than just the three of us, decides what the community should know about in Massachusetts and elsewhere, seemed like something that might help that amazing community develop and flourish.  At least, we certainly hope so.

Now, to the logistics.  There's more info about user accounts, etc. below the flip.

David :: Welcome to the NEW Blue Mass. Group!
This new site, which operates on a platform called soapblox, supports diaries, nested comments, and other features that you might be used to seeing at Daily Kos and other scoop sites.  However, to use most of them, you need to establish a user account with the site.

Fortunately, the wizards who made the conversion happen (you'll note that all our old content is available here) figured out a way to transfer names and email addresses left at the old site to this one.

So: if at the old site you commented under a particular name and you had left a REAL email address, you should be able to sign in easily here. What you do is: enter your "user name" in the sign-in box at the upper left of the screen, and click "forgot password." The system will email you a password, and then you can sign in (you'll probably want to change your password right away, which you do by going to your "page" and clicking on "profile").

However, if you commented under a particular name that you'd like to keep and left a FAKE email address, it's a bit more complicated - we have to do it manually. What I'd suggest is that you simply send me an email indicating who you are, and I will reset the system so that it associates your name with a real email (fear not - these emails will never be displayed on the site). Then you just proceed as above.

Of course, if you want to start fresh with a new user name, it's easy - just follow the "make a new account" link.

Whew. Well, that's the most complicated thing. The rest is easy.  Once you're signed in, you can post diaries, post comments, whatever. Look around the new site and tell us what you think. We are still doing lots of tinkering.

You might want to establish your own site meter and paste it in some blox somewhere. The site-meter that's at the bottom collects for all the SoapBloxes.

Hey, I love the site. I'm looking forward to stopping by now and again.

Yeah - (0.00 / 0)
we've been using an invisible statcounter tracker for the typepad site and will just carry that one over to this one. Guess we're stuck with the big ol' sitemeter bug at the bottom of the page, though!

Trackbacks (0.00 / 0)
Are the Trackbacks gone for good, or are you folks working on that for the future?

Just curious.

You know, (0.00 / 0)
I have never really understood trackbacks. Something about a ping, or a ding, isn't it? :-)

Anyway, I will inquire as to whether such things exist 'round these parts.

[ Parent ]
SoapBlox currently doens't do trackbacks (0.00 / 0)
and for no other reason than I've never really understood them.  I'm more a visit counter junkie myself.

Get up on your SoapBlox

I like trackbacks (0.00 / 0)
...because they tell *everyone* when someone has visited your site and commented on your post. So, I miss them.

So what politics do you deserve?

And... (0.00 / 0)
... it's a good way to drive traffic to your site and get a Google hit, on a strictly business level.

Anyway, I'd love to have them, if there's any plan for them.
