Lanny Davis: The Best Ad For Obama I Ever Heard

by: MannyGoldstein

Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 21:01:25 PM EST

(I heard the show. Lanny Davis was mind-bogglingly, hilariously awful. The funniest part was when Ashbrook asked him to jump in -- practically with an engraved invitation -- and Davis kept whining how he couldn't get a word in edgewise. It's at about 15:30 into the show. It's because he didn't actually have anything to say. The company you keep ... - promoted by Charley on the MTA)

I just listened to part of today's "On Point" on WBUR.  The discussion was over whether Bill Clinton was too immersed in the missus' campaign.  Lanny Davis, President Bill's former special counsel was part of the discussion - well, sort of part of the discussion.  Instead of engaging in conversation, he just spewed forth obfuscation-points like a brain-injured parrot.

Davis sputtered out the litany of Clinton mendacities - Obama supporting Reagan, Obama not being against the Iraq war, etc.  He was startling in his thuggishly lawyer-esque parsing of words, and angry/weird attacks on the other guests.

I can't recall that I've ever before heard host Tom Ashbrook get exasperated by the volume of BS pouring from a guest.  Incredible.

The only thing that I can think of is that the Clintons figure they've already lost the NPR crowd, so they wanted to flip them the bird as a parting gift.

I Disagree... (6.00 / 1)
Lanny Davis (Clinton) and Tom Daschle (Obama) are two of the strongest arguments for John Edwards. Obama is so haughty about his position on the war, but he has Daschle carrying water for him with the press?

And another one... (0.00 / 0)
Rodney Slater (Clinton) is so bad he makes Chris Matthews look good.

Wow (6.00 / 1)
Just got a chance to listen to that...holy hell. What a total loser. And I don't say that about many people, because it's mean, but Davis is just off the reservation.

He said four times in a row "I would appreciate if I could get a chance to respond to the distortions when __ speaks", trying to talk OVER Ashbrook, wasting his OWN time to speak, and of course, he was ASKING to INTERRUPT the other guests.

Then there was his insistence on parsing the Reagan comment as being FOR REAGAN'S IDEAS rather than what it actually WAS saying, which was that the Dems need to be a party of ideas LIKE THE REPUBLICANS but not ENDORSING the damn IDEAS.

Anyone who ever invites him on their show ever again ought to have their head examined. Whether or not you are a Clinton supporter, you should disown this asshat.

I love the Ashbrook audible sigh at the end when Davis insisted "Will you let me finish???" That guy never loses his cool in an interview, so that tells you something.

Left in Lowell: cuz why read the Lowell Sun if you don't have to? ;)

The dying DLC (0.00 / 0)
Wow.  I just listened to the show.  And it reminded me how much I hated Lanny Davis during the Lamont-Lieberman race in '06.

Davis sounds like a pathetic and anxious Clintonista.  It is clear that the DLC/Clinton wing of the party is very scared that Obama will win the nomination and they will be left sidelined.

The Democrats need a clean break from the past and we should keep the '90s style New Democrats out of power and out of office.
