Liveblogging From the Middlesex Registrar of Probate Caucus

by: sco

Wed Sep 24, 2008 at 18:31:02 PM EDT

OK, sco gave me the keys to this thing, as there is no wifi for him, so I will endeaver to report as well as my feeble-compared-to-sco talents, and my PDA allows...

-- Lynne, leftinlowell.com

To start with, I am sitting in the press section with one Elias Nugator of Chimes at Midnight, as the delegates stream by. Turnout is impressive, though I hear some smaller towns are not sending any delegates, many sent all or most at least.

So fully 12 names are nominated officially. The motion is for 2 per candidates.

John Aliperta: background atty, financial planner. Restore integrtiy, has run practice, businesses. More advancements to the poor, technology.

John Cesan: tells story. Restore honor and dignty to probate office. Tough times for everyone, need to look @ govt carefully. woild like to do job for 80 K

Robert Colt: 16 yrs distrct atty office, know what is needed to turn office around. 16 point plan, solicit public input. Best practices. All should be treated equally.

Tom Concanon: Lifetime dem, 1st dem mayor newton. 30 yrs fsmily and probate law. County is in disarray. Need to supply services to this community. Should be evaluations. Need new bldg.

sco :: Liveblogging From the Middlesex Registrar of Probate Caucus
Tara: has worked in middlese probate court. cleared out backlog. Trained on tech update slated for rollout. not many know what the status of this office...do you want alearning curve w/ political appt or someone who won't have one? (Tara well received...)

John Panica: starts with funny joke, creds as dem. Works with student program.

Gail Sullivan: praises waltham. 31 yrs as ma atty, private andpublic rxperience. worked w/ tip o'neil. Worked with impoverished families. Grew up in poverty.  Committed to public srvc, impressed by level of candidates standing for offic.

Teresa Walsh: all want one thing: dem nom to brcome next registrar. Rep'ed indigent clients, held elected office, need some with elected experience to hit ground running.

John O'Donovan: am proud resident somerville. strong dem, dem principles. somerville scholl comm and alderman. in practice. know what is needed. transparency, simplfy process. tech upgrades. collect data for accntability. (much applause)

Brian Chamberlain: family work paralegal, .mainconcern violence against women,

(missed several cand's., ran into pda posting limits...) :( missed Leonard Golden, Maria Sheehy, Katherine Triantafillou.

Complements candidates for sticking to 2min limit. Seems they have really planned how to get balloting moving. we'll see in a moment!

Here's sco: 'i think it's going to be a long night.'

a delegate: 'actually this process went much better than I expected.'

The pre-voting lasted less than 40min, and it's 10 of 8 & balloting is now closed & we're about to hear results...

while we wait for the count, a speech about Q#1.  A lot of crosstalk, but there was less than @ lowell's 06 caucus when tom reilly spoke. :)

every1 to next ballot (no 1 withdrew):over 15%: Tara D: 101 (20%); Sean O: 117 (24%); Maria S: 91 (18%)

ball#2 closed...Walsh leaving race and endors. Tara D on  bal #1 walsh had 6% vote.

ball#2 results over 15%: Tara 31%, Sean 24%, Maria 18%

3rd: Tara 44, Sean 29, Maria 26, it's between Tara & Sean

:)

It's REGISTER of Probate, not Registrar! (6.00 / 1)

This is such an exciting opportunity for the people of Middlesex County and the Commonwealth in general!

Sometimes in a democracy you have to pay attention!

BMGers know my beliefs concerning Margaret Marshall and the Trial Court.  Judges should judge!  Elected clerks and registers are responsible to the electorate!

Superintendacy of the courts means on rulings and conduct, not the mechanics!

This confrontation has been building since Mike Dukakis' "court reform" wrestled the bricks and mortar of the courthouses from the people!

Feeble? (0.00 / 0)
Lynne, the Earth trembles at your feet. When you say things, people listen (cue flashback to line at National Anthem Concert in Boston).

My thoughts are mine and mine alone. They should not be considered representative of any other organization, group or person - save me.

Who Said We Have to Wait for the Globe? (4.00 / 1)

Who can tell us to wait until we read it tomorrow in the Boston Globe or, heavens forbib, the Herald.

No worry though, Murdoch wouldn't pay to send a reporter to Waltham.  So the Herald would likely not run it until Friday, after the AP wire has it on Thursday.

Surprise me Rupert.  Run it on Thursday morning in the Boston Herald!

it's Sean O'Donovan, not John

Thanks! My Wayback Machine Missed a Few Years. (0.00 / 0)

The Boston Herald still operates like Rupert owns them.
