| Metaphorical pitchforks and torches, it seems, are not only being handed out on Connecticut bus tours of the mansions of AIG executives. A series of Facebook sites that oppose Governor Patrick have picked up new energy in recent weeks.
The groups are dwarfed by Patrick's primary Facebook page, which has 9,625 supporters, up about 1,000, I think, from the last time I looked a few months ago. The margin between the groups -- about 97% pro-Patrick and 3% against, based on membership -- is perhaps indicative of Governor's support among the netroots.
The recent rush of activity on the "anti" sites, however, is noteworthy. Impeach Deval Patrick, formed in 2006, is the largest group with 136 members. It seems to have been largely moribund since its establishment in 2006. Since February 9, however, there have been dozens of posts, including three discussions started earlier this month.
Deval Patrick Must Go!, with 110 members, is the second-largest group. The site was created in January 2008 judging by the earliest wall posts. It too is filled with rants about taxes, various outrages, and applause for the insightful writings of Michael Graham -- and a burst of recent updates. Supporters of the mathematically challenged Jim Ogonowski (who really have to be applauded for their dedication), Tim Cahill, and Christy Mihos, not to mention CBNC reporter Rick Santelli, have made appearances.
Is this the base for any would-be 2010 challengers for the Governorship? Seems pretty thin pickings. |
