(Hillman looks more and more like a classic hack: using your influence to enrich your friends. - promoted by David)
Not only did Reed Hillman(part of the tough on crime team) advocate for the pardon of a drunk driver and police assaulter, today's Worcester Telegram has him advocating for a friend's liquor license.
Hillman wrote in the Aug. 23, 2000, letter to the ABCC that he had known Mr. Fontaine for more than two decades in his capacity as a “fellow law enforcement officer.”
what Hillman says he didn't know is that the restaraunt was paid for with $148,000 cash
Mr. Fontaine had been placed on administrative leave with pay in February 2005 after the investigation raised questions about where he got the cash, reported that he had been uncooperative with the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission, and raised ethical issues about his use of his position, among other things
According to the article Hillman regrets writing the letter
However, in retrospect, Mr. Hillman said, he would not do the same favor for Mr. Fontaine knowing what he does now.
I think Scott Fershon says it best
When he’s not trying to get pardons for convicted felons, he’s advocating for liquor licenses for questionable applicants,”
“There’s no way I would write a letter like that today,” he said. “All sorts of allegations have come up since then.”
