Fox25 is melting my brain.

by: Charley on the MTA

Tue Apr 10, 2007 at 22:12:12 PM EDT

Top story tonight: Hrrrm, was it opening day @ Fenway? The usual arson n' murder? Deciding what health care's affordable?

Nope. Anna Nicole's old boyfriend announces he's the dad of her baby, with a big thumbs up! David Wade's gonna comment on it later. Can't wait -- er, Wade.

We're all screwed, folks. There's no way they could be foisting this utter moronilicious stupidosity on us, unless they were hiding something really big from us. I'm expecting a meteor.

I don't ever, ever, ever want to hear about how bloggers have no credibility. That may be true, or not true, but we're just not first on the list of the damned -- not even close.

With more than two local news channels (0.00 / 0)
why doesn't one just go "crap free" as an angle?

Just imagine:

Thanks for watching WXYZ local news.  No celebrity paternity stories.  Crap free since 2007.

I'm not asking for the NYTimes nightly.  Just lose the tabloid angle, and I'd start watching the news again.  Sure they'd lose some viewers, but I'd bet they'd pick up some, and now their demographic is unique, probably better educated, and perhaps more valuable to advertisers...

The opposite is true (0.00 / 0)
If Fox weren't making money broadcasting TV's version of the National Enquirer, they'd change.  But certainly if they adjusted their content to appeal to a "better educated" demographic, i.e., "better educated" progressives like yourself (irony quotes mine), they'd be broke in 6 months.

Yeah yeah... (0.00 / 0)
I'm not asking for appealing to a "better educated" demographic.  It's not about education, it's about taste and product differentiation.  The old "if it were profitable, it'd already be happening" line is tired and not always true.  Companies innovate all the time, and their timing isn't always perfect.

If one news channel dropped the tabloid coverage, they'd be offering a different product.  That'd be appealing to a different market segment in the same way that Comedy Central's Daily Show isn't really competing with cnn for viewers.

It is a wonder (6.00 / 1)
that PBS News Hour doesn't just rake in the bucks.

[ Parent ]
Don't watch it then (0.00 / 0)
It's a free country.  Stop whining and change the channel.

More fun to whine. (6.00 / 1)

So what politics do you deserve?

Oh. Let me understand this... (0.00 / 0)
...You actually watch Fox25 News?  The last time I paid attention to Fox25 News was a decade or more ago.  They had a segment filmed in a park in Weston.  It was hilarious.  It was about flashers in the park.  It just so happened that, during the filming, a flasher happened by.  It was funny as heck.  I guess that Fox25 was too stupid to realize that some of us could figure out that the coincidence of their filming with the happening by of the flasher was a little--suspicious.

Fox25 News is incompetent.  Channel 56 News at 10 was very competent, and it's a shame that the new owners of the station sought to get rid of it.

BTW, regarding Fox25 News, all you need to know about their tilt toward news is that they hired Howie Carr's former sidekick "Virgin Boy*" to host their morning news show.  (*Late sportscaster Curt Goudy's son, I forget his name.)

Hey (0.00 / 0)
Wasn't that cataclysmic event supposed to happen yesterday?

Yes (0.00 / 0)
but we have these enclaves of meditating monks and stuff.

It is good to see people caring about conception though (0.00 / 0)
Between Anna Nicole and Mary Cheney and Tom Brady and oh so many other celebs, there is a heck of a lot of interest in who is conceiving with who.  It's actually funny to watch people who insist that it isn't news try to keep people from caring.

It's a definite phenomoneon of 2007 though, and probably has something to do with a national angst about sperm donors and unmarried parents and gay couples and so on.

I'm sure, buried deep in the American psyche, (0.00 / 0)
is the confusion about same sex conception rights.  That likely explains all of this nonsense.

Oh my God Fox 25 melts my brain every day (0.00 / 0)
Any time I see even a snippet of this "news program" it melts my brain a little. It's a miracle I'm not a quivering mess on the floor in fact.

Remember when every night used to have a sensationalized headline story that they would promo all day? One of my all-time favorites was "Unsafe Cranes!" Yes, I believe the excalamation mark was part of the real title.

"DAN HAUSLE IS *THERE*!"

Ch. 7 is tabloid too (duh, big surprise), they led the 5:30 newcast that night with Anna Nicole's child too.
