"Legislators Support Holocaust Denier's Anti-Gay Bill"

by: Lynne

Fri Jun 01, 2007 at 17:40:59 PM EDT

(This is crazy. Garbage like this bill shouldn't be given the time of day by any self-respecting legislator. - promoted by David)

This really burned me...I got a KnowThyNeighbor email alert...thank goodness my own legislators aren't on the list, or there would be hell to pay...but yours might just be on here:

Is your legislator sponsoring a Holocaust denier's anti-gay bill?

Seventeen Republicans and Eight Democrats are sponsoring an anti-gay bill that would require a parental permission slip for public school teachers to use the word homosexual, lesbian, transgender, or bisexual.

This would also require a permission slip for classroom discussion of same-sex marriage, the current Equal Rights fight for LGBT, and even families being headed by same-sex parents.

But it gets worse. At Tuesday's Hearing of the Joint Committee on Education, two chief supporters of this bill gave testimony in which they denied part of the Holocaust -- claiming that homosexuals were not among the victims of the Nazi concentration camps (see Bay Windows article and KTN BLOG).

Lynne :: "Legislators Support Holocaust Denier's Anti-Gay Bill"
The legislators sponsoring this disgraceful bill and supporting the work of anti-gay Holocaust deniers are listed below. If your legislator is listed, you must contact them and demand that they withdraw their sponsorship of Bill S321 -- Parental Notification. A legislator may have his/her name removed from a Senate Bill by sending a letter of request to William Welch, Senate Clerk, Room 335, State House.

Paul Donato, eh? (0.00 / 0)
Been seeing his name a lot lately.

This bill is a prescription for teen suicides (6.00 / 4)
It would prevent gay kids with unsupportive parents from receiving unbiased information in health class, from attending GSA meetings, from receiving handouts or viewing posters or displays about sexual orientation, and even from receiving private counseling in a school setting. It even includes a provision that would inhibit survey research about kids' feelings of victimization or suicide.

You can imagine how gay, lesbian or transgendered kids might be made to feel by a law including a definition of alternative sexual behavior that lumps any mention of their existence in with discussion of illegal activities like pederasty and prostitution.

The noxious content of this legislation says volumes about what the haters behind it want: to make as many gays and lesbians as possible disappear, by whatever means available.

"Perseverance is a great element of success. If you knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody." -Longfellow

Are you really surprised? (0.00 / 0)
This is but the latest action from a group that claims the Day of Silence is "intimidating" and "coercive." So the wingers start a so-called "Day of Truth" in which they encourage their kids to actively proselytize, in class, their very special religious agenda, and hand out leaflets full of distortions and lies.

But that's neither intimidating nor coercive. Oh nooooo. Not at all! Why? Because they spread their lies and bigotry out of a loving concern for their opponents' immortal souls, dontcha know.

Surprising (0.00 / 0)
I'm surprised Calter's on there... he should be one of the good ones. I wonder if he knew what he was signing.

One thing that was noted on... (0.00 / 0)
...the old NYTimes gay rights board was that, scratch a homophobe, and you will find either a racist, or an anti-semite, and in many cases both.

It is interesting to note that in 2002 and 2003 the US Holocaust Memorial Museum held an exhibition on the Nazi persecution of homosexuals.  Before that, the Nazi persecution of homosexuals had largely been ignored

this bill is insane (0.00 / 0)
but that said, I'm glad to read that it wasn't the actual legislators denying the holocaust, though that people are still supporting it after the arguments that show its absurdity is saddening.
